PLANTS IN FIELD

Washingtonia filifera

Mexico, California and Arizona.
It is one of the palms more used in Spain by their great ornamental value. Their leaves form big fans and their strong and straight trunk reaches about 18 m height and 1 m of diameter in its base.
The trunk maintains itself the leaves that are getting dry for a long time. Very big palm-shaped leaves with a limbo of until 2 m of diameter.
It prefers warm coastal areas. It resists well up to 5 under zero but you can observe in inside Andalusia and with minimum temperatures of 9 under zero, in the course of some months they recovered well. It behaves very well with the heat and the wind. It thanks the watering but adapts itself well to the dry climate and also resists the salinity.
Appropriate to use as isolated copies or forming groups with trunks of diverse heights or in alignment. Like a very ornamental palm it is used around the world "where the climate allows it" as alignment in avenues and parks.
