Cycas is the survivor of a group of similar conifers that populated the Earth over one hundred million years ago. This strange and captivating plant is dioecious and bears a strong resemblance to giant ferns and palm trees.<\/p>\n

Belonging to the family Cycadaceae, it is defined as \u201csimilar to palm trees\u201d because of its single growth point in the centre of the trunk. Trunks can reach 3 metres in length; they are typically strong, straight, and unbranched. Leaves can grow to be 1.5 metres long.<\/p>\n

It is hardy in terms of soil and weather, but does not tolerate prolonged periods in very cold climates.<\/p>\n
